Social Media: How Can It Help My Business? Online success for your business will require a number of components including; SEO, design and marketing. One component which is becoming more and more influential to the success of your business is the application of social media. Social media platforms such as Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, Google+ and YouTube can all influence the audience reach of your company and, therefore, the success of your business.

Facebook

Facebook is a social media platform used to connect with the people around you. In terms of social media for business use, a company can use Facebook to set up a business profile, build an online audience and expand their online footprint.

With more than 1 billion active Facebook users and an average of 250,000 new users per day, Facebook offers an easy way to reach large groups of existing or potential customers. By regularly posting comments and uploading photos, the use of Facebook for business purposes allows a company to permanently be in the mind of a possible client. Furthermore, by replying promptly to any comments or questions posted by the public, a business can increase the chances of both initial and repeat custom.

However, the main downside of Facebook is that people need to have ‘liked’ your page or content will need to have been ‘liked’ or ‘shared’ for users to see it on their newsfeed. Therefore, it may be difficult to reach a large number of people through Facebook alone.

Twitter

In a similar way to Facebook, Twitter allows a business to reach a larger audience by posting tweets relevant to your business.

With over 500 million users, businesses can reach customers and companies through the use of #tags relevant to what it is they’re tweeting about. For instance, if a digital marketing agency were to post a tweet about their services, they may use the #tags; #digitalmarketing, #SEO and #websitedesign to reach their desired audience.

Although Twitter is useful for reaching a wider audience, tweets are limited to 140 characters meaning a company is more limited as to how much they can say.

LinkedIn

LinkedIn is similar to Facebook, however, it is more specific to the business world. With 175 million users, LinkedIn is a great way to be found by business minded individuals and other companies. This is a great platform to use when looking to expand your business.

Google+

As with the other social media platforms previously listed, Google+ allows a business to post relevant updates about the business and keep their company in the mind of existing and potential customers. With over 400 million registered users, Google+ circles can be used to reach a large number of potential clients.

YouTube

Receiving around 4 billion views per day, a company can post videos about their business and potentially increase their audience.
